It is an evergreen herbaceous perennial that grows in dense stands. It spreads via a creeping rhizome that is sometimes above ground and sometimes underground. From a basal rosette, its stiff leaves emerge vertically. It is tough, resilient, and highly tolerant of poor soil and low light.
The stiff, pointed leaves are tall, narrow, and strong. Dark green, light green, green with yellow edges, and light green and yellow that are variegated are among the colors. Some species shoot up spikes with delicate flowers. Any indoor garden setting would benefit greatly from the Sansevieria plant. Everyone is sure to find the ideal match for their taste with more than sixty different varieties to choose from.
Mature leaves typically measure between 70 to 90 cm in length and 5 to 6 cm in width. They are dark green with light gray-green cross-banding. Due to the shape of its leaves and their sharpness, it is also known as the snake plant (not to be confused with the plant of the same name, Nassauvia serpens). It is referred to as huweilan (Tiger’s Tail Or-chid) in China and Japan. The plant is used as a charm in Africa to ward off evil and be-witchment.
